BARBADOS - music news flash!

	Compliments of the Nation News April 2006 Reggae artists Luciano (left) and Buju Banton flew into Barbados with a promise of a performance to remember at today's Reggae On The Hill concert at Farley Hill National Park, St Peter. Luciano is expected to belt out some of his biggest hits like Messenger and Carry Jah Load, while Buju will share those from his new album Til Shiloh, along with some old favourites. The duo will be among the galaxy of ace reggae stars like Third World, Anthony B, and Morgan Heritage. Thousands are expected to attend the event.
Compliments of the Nation News REGGAE FEAST ON THE HILL. Food, fun and fas Entertainment with lots of reggae were found at Farley Hill National Park, St Peter. And the 14 000 people who flocked to the second staging of the annual Reggae On The Hill show took full advantage of everything. Reggae lovers rocked, swayed, danced and vibed to the clean, conscious, positive reggae lyrics served up by local acts, including KDB Band, Biggie Irie, Third Stone and ZR recording artistes who launched an album. They did the same to the five international acts – Third World, Morgan Heritage, Anthony B, Luciano and Buju Banton. Here, a section of the crowd having a good time yesterday. 	It was “Bashment” in Baxters Road yesterday morning. One of Bridgetown’s busiest streets was blocked by a number of beautiful models, dressed in provocative outfits, dancing inside, on top and in front the Speightstown minibus, B44. Over 200 curious onlookers took up vantage spots, along the sidewalk and inside shops, to watch the action. It was part of the pop promo for British-based international recording artiste, Mark Morrison’s, new video, Dance For Me. < Read more>
Swing to salsa! - Sunday 16, January-2005	Everybody gather around now and let the Latin rhythms of timbales player, Tito De Gracia and friends, move your feet! This troupe of dancers captivated patrons at Jazz On The Hill yesterday at Farley Hill National Park with salsa moves. Wearing red bandanas inscribed with Salsa Vida, the troupe, led by Majbritt Waageles, an instructor of Cuban salsa from Denmark (left) motivated others to join the action. SHE’S COMING! SHE’S COMING! That was the word on Payne’s Bay beach yesterday morning when American rhythm and blues superstar Alicia Keys appeared for a photo-shoot. Preceded by her towering six-foot, nine-inch bodyguard, “Carter”, and with her mum Terri by her side, the petite Barbados Jazz Festival headliner strolled across the sands and plopped into a hammock, one of the props. < Read more >

The Crop Over carnival season is when Barbadian artistes traditionally release all their material, but with the advent of the global market this is expected to change.
	Not 'coals to castle' but 'pans from Manchester!' The pan band Steel Tempo, many of whose members are British of Barbadian heritage, proves that steel pan is alive and well in Britain. Click on photograph to visit their site.

	The Royal Barbados Police Band has an amazing repertoire that includes everything from the classics to calypso! They are an important fixture at all major Barbadian events.

In order to help realise those dreams of success, the NCF hosted a Music Symposium during the Congaline Music Festival. Various speakers shared their expertise in various areas of advertising and marketing, in order to help recording artistes to promote themselves and their product.

Ringbang is a union of various types of Caribbean music, with the focus on the rhythm rather than the melody. Since its creation in 1994, ringbang has grown in popularity throughout the Caribbean and especially in Barbados.

The island's musical offerings are varied and exciting. Jazz, folk, steel pan, rock, dub, reggae and of course soca combine to create a feast for music lovers of all kinds.

Last Crop Over season Ian Webster asked the question whether Barbados was becoming “a nation of shows” based on the high number of shows that took place between 2002 and 2003. Given the packed entertainment calendar this year, particularly over the past few weeks, it would seem as though the answer to his question is a resounding “yes.” Read more
