At the start of last weekend Trevor Electric Micey Manning had set out
to reclaim what he had loss to Paul The Surfer Bourne last year, was the
Vaucluse RallySprint track record. Even before the dust could settle on the final
day of the International RallySprint which forms part of the 2005 Barbados
Rally Carnival, Manning in his Shell Helix/Courts/Automotive Art/Kerridge/Simpson
Motors/Garbage Master Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII had elcipsed the
old record over the three-kilometre course with a new time of two minutes
The old record set by Bourne last year was two minutes 03.42 seconds.
However, the retired Bourne, who returned for one last Rally Carnival,
sound a warning that he was not giving up the title of record holder without
a fight and replaced last year s record with a new time of two minutes
02.87 seconds before Manning was able to reach the mark.
But Bourne would not have any further opportunity to lower his time as
he was knocked out early in the group runs.
It was in the losers run-off that Bourne set
the new mark, we decided to but some weight in the back which transformed
the car (Banks/Pirelli Subaru Impreza WRC), said Bourne speaking about
the time he had done.
I had a really good run and had to race two times back to back.
The first was against Ray Brammer from England in the Ray Brammer Vehicle
Repairs/C & R Units/Thurlow Nunn Subaru Impreza WRX, and the second
race was against Roger The Sheriff Skeete in the Havoline/McEnearney Quality/Michelin
Ford Focus WRC ,who had been knocked out by Harold Morley in the Sunbeach
Communications Subaru Impreza WRC.
However Bourne lowering the mark would not sit well with Manning. It gave
me a lot of inspiration, said Manning. It is very good to see him (Bourne)
come out here after not driving for about six months and do so well. There
has always been a very strong Mitsubishi/Subaru rivalry in the island
and his return added to that.
It was in the first group run off, which was against the always consistent
Roger The Ninja Hill after the lunch interval that Manning set the new
record. I decided to go for it because I didn t know how the track was
going to hold up during the day. So, we put on some new tyres and went
for it, he said
Though this time would put him at a severe disadvantage latter in the
day in the Group Winners Handicap, Manning said, I did not worry about
that I just did the best time because it was all about the record, not
The car Hill in the Mobil 1/Nassco/Motormac/Michelin Toyota Celica GT4
was getting progressively faster as well and would post a fastest time
of two minutes 03.99 seconds on the day. However, the day did not go without
incident for the new record holder. During his race against Kevin Procter
to determine who would be the group winner his throttle bodies stuck in
the open position.
I was driving using only the brake and the clutch, mentioned the skilled
driver adding that because it was Procter in the very quick Procters Coaches/Swift
Signs/PC racing Vehicle Rentals/Motoscope Ford Puma Evo 4 x 4 he was not
allowed to give anything away.
Procter finished the day with a fastest of two minutes 04.08 seconds.
However, this would not be the end as the same problem reoccurred in the
handicap race against Jonathan Still, however, this time he decided not
to attempt the same feat, but call it a day. Despite his mishaps Manning
said that this year is just brilliant.
